Our Story

Christian and Mike at Ragged Branch
Barrel Pick Day at Ragged Branch

Christian and Mike crossed paths for the first time in January 2017 at a local F3 workout. Shortly thereafter they discovered that they both shared a passion for all things bourbon. In 2018, Christian travelled to Kentucky to compete in the 200+ mile Bourbon Chase Relay race, with an additional goal to visit as many distilleries as possible.  Mike joined Christian in 2019 for the Bourbon Chase Relay, again setting the lofty goal of visiting as many distilleries and Liquor Barns as possible. In all, they have visited Heaven Hill, Jim Beam American and Urban Stillhouse, Maker’s Mark, Michter’s Fort Nelson, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, Barton 1792, Bulleit, Willet, Jack Daniel’s, and Old Nick Williams Co. Farm and Distillery.

During this same time, the pair started to explore some of the tasty offerings found at smaller distilleries from Lewisville, North Carolina to Charlottesville, Virginia and beyond. It is their hope that Rickhouse Ramblings will draw attention to some of these fantastic offerings that come from outside of the Commonwealth of Kentucky!

Don’t misunderstand – they love Kentucky Bourbon! Lately though, they also have seen that a whiskey boom is occurring in Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Their hope is that you will have yourself a nice pour, grab a seat, and read about some of their newly found favorites and much more through Rickhouse Ramblings.

Some of our favorite selections: Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Mitcher’s US*1 Sour Mash, Old Weller Antique, Eagle Rare, Maker’s 46, Larceny
